Premier League weekend results Sunderland 0-2 Leicester Liverpool 4-1 Stoke Tottenham 3-0 Manchester United West Ham 3-3 Arsenal Southampton 3-1 Newcastle Crystal Palace 1-0 Norwich Watford 1-1 Everton Swansea 1-0 Chelsea Aston Villa 1-2 Bournemouth Manchester City 2-1 West Brom Leicester - A+Everyone is still waiting on them to slip up but they got another clean sheet and the three points at Sunderland. They had to wait until the second half to get their goals but they are looking irresistible so its top marks.Liverpool - A+They made a lot of changes to the side that got a terrific result in Dortmund but they were really good at home to Stoke. At 1-1, there wasnt much in the game but Sheyi Ojo made an impact for Daniel Sturridge to get the second and then Divock Origi came on and in the second half, he absolutely ripped it up. A really solid performance at the start of a really big week.Spurs - A+They were under real pressure against Manchester United, given the fact Leicester had already won, but they ground out a result. It was tight but the first goal opened the floodgates and it was a big performance from them. Had the lead got to 10 points, then Leicester would have basically won it, but Spurs have kept them just about in range. Lamelas transformation How Erik Lamela has developed into a key player for Mauricio Pochettinos Spurs Swansea - A+It was a surprising result, given the run Chelsea had been on, but Swansea look a different side and have been playing well. They are more aggressive, more confident and to beat Chelsea is massive for them.Southampton - AA very good performance. Ronald Koeman is a class act, generating another team after losing so many players, and they have really picked up speed. They demolished Newcastle, who were all over the place.Crystal Palace - AIts a massive win, especially against Norwich. If they had lost, they would have been starting to feel the heat but the win gives them some breathing space and might kick them on to get another which would probably see them safe. Its a hugely important result. Jason Puncheons goal gave Palace victory over Norwich Bournemouth - AEddie Howe has been fantastic and the club stuck to their principles of how they want to play when it was a bit rocky for a while. Its against Villa, who are rooted to the bottom, but it was a good performance.Man City - AIts a massive week for them and they managed to start with a win. West Brom are always tough to break down, so to get a win is just what they needed ahead of their Champions League match.West Ham - B+Its been a really good season for West Ham, but its not quite an A because they conceded after working so hard to get themselves in front. To come from 2-0 down against Arsenal was still a really good effort and they have a huge game in midweek against Manchester United. Andy Carroll netted a hat-trick for West Ham against Arsenal Watford - BIt was interesting listening to Quique Sanchez Flores talking about taking their eye off the ball (against Everton) and almost blaming himself that he has not been focusing enough on the league, because of the semi-final coming up against Palace. You can forgive them a bit for that, but they are so reliant on the two front men to get the goals and they are not firing right now.Everton - BThey could use the same excuse as Watford with one eye on the FA Cup, but they are in a poor position and underachieving. They should be doing better this season. Everton boss Roberto Martinez was disappointed not to get all three points against Watford West Brom - BThey got an early goal to take the lead against Man City but couldnt hold on. They werent expected to get anything out of the game but they put up a decent fight.Sunderland - B-The Leicester result can almost be forgiven because they are playing a very strong side. The performance wasnt that bad, they had a couple of chances and Kasper Schmeichel made a good save from a deflected shot early on, but to leave yourself isolated at the back with the pace of Jamie Vardy is not the best idea. Graeme Souness and Jamie Carragher take a look at why Sunderland are deep in relegation trouble Arsenal - B-If they had got all three points, I think they still would have been in the title race. I know they would still have been a bit behind, but they have a game in hand and a fantastic run-in. A draw is not good enough, though, and again the defensive frailties showed up along with a lack of leadership in the centre-back position.Stoke - B-They started slowly at Anfield, got themselves into the game, but then there was some poor defending and the keeper didnt cover himself in glory either. Jack Butland is a huge miss and it was a bad result considering how many changes Liverpool made. It was an opportunity for Stoke to go there and get a result.Chelsea - B-They were poor defensively at Swansea and looked weak. Its not often you can say that under Guus Hiddink, who has improved their performances, but they were poor. Guus Hiddinks Chelsea were beaten by Swansea Norwich - B-I know they had some chances and it took a special goal to get the points but it was such a big game. Had they won, it would have given them so much confidence but it was a poor result and could be dangerous with the run-in they have.Manchester United - CI know Louis van Gaal is saying until the first goal it was an even game at Tottenham, but hes trying to fit square pegs into round holes with the players he is choosing, it baffles me. He can say what he wants about performances but its just not been good enough. Jamie Carragher said Manchester United have gone backwards under Louis van Gaal and he doesn’t expect him to be at the club next season Newcastle - CIt was a big game for them at Southampton and they didnt do enough. Their run-in is not great so to turn in a performance like that and be so weak at the back is not good enough. They have a squad that is capable but some of the decisions - like Georginio Wijnaldum playing in a deeper role - baffle me. He has scored nine goals in an advanced position so I dont understand playing someone with that energy in a holding role. I dont think they will get out of trouble.Aston Villa - CNo fight again against Bournemouth, and the fans have had enough. I think you can almost be forgiven for performances but not for effort, and the fans are feeling there is a lack of effort. That could be from a lack of confidence, for a beaten side its hard to rise to the occasion. Also See: Carroll for England? NEW YORK -- On a day when dozens of Yankees greats were back on the field in pinstripes, Goose Gossage was overwhelmed to be the centre of attention. The Hall of Fame reliever with the blazing fastball and bushy moustache was honoured by the team on Old-Timers Day with a plaque to be put in Monument Park. "This is the greatest day Ive ever had," he told the sellout crowd of 47,493 at Yankee Stadium. Joined on the field by his family and old-timers from Yogi Berra to Bucky Dent, Gossage unveiled his plaque at home plate and grabbed the microphone Sunday to chants of "Goooose" before New York hosted the Baltimore Orioles. "I played for nine different teams, and putting on the pinstripes was like the closest thing to an out-of-body experience Ive ever had," Gossage said. "Outside of the day my kids were born and going into Cooperstown, it doesnt get any better than this. Its awesome," he added later. "Just an amazing day. I cant even put into words what it means." Gossage pitched for the Yankees from 1978-83, helping them to a World Series title during his first season in pinstripes. He returned for 11 games in 1989. Back in his day, closers routinely pitched multiple innings -- and Gossage was no different. He went 42-28 with a 2.14 ERA and 151 saves for the Yankees, leaving him third on the clubs career list behind Mariano Rivera (652) and Dave Righetti (224). "What he did in his era was just incredible," former New York pitcher David Wells said. After spending so much time in the bullpen at the previous Yankee Stadium, just a few steps from Monument Park, Gossage said he never could have imagined having his own plaque out there with all the others. The inscription on his marker begins by calling Gossage "one of the most intimidating pitchers ever to don pinstripes." It becomes thhe 28th plaque grouped behind the centre-field fence, where seven monuments commemorate such all-time greats as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle, along with late owner George Steinbrenner.dddddddddddd The tribute came one day after the Yankees presented Tino Martinez with a Monument Park plaque in a similar celebration. Gossage tipped his cap to the crowd, and a video montage of his Yankees highlights preceded his speech. Diana Munson, the widow of former batterymate Thurman Munson, gave the pitcher a framed replica of his plaque, and the team presented him with a flashy No. 54 ring outlined in diamonds. "I cant tell you what it means to me and my family," said Gossage, recalling that Old-Timers Day was always his favourite day of the year during his Yankees tenure. "I dont even really know what to say. Its totally overwhelming to me." When the ceremony was over, the old-timers took the field for a four-inning game. Ron Guidry was on the mound, Rickey Henderson led off with a double and Mickey Rivers made a smooth catch in right-centre to rob Martinez of extra bases. Jesse Barfield homered into the left-field corner off David Cone, who trotted from first to third right alongside the ex-slugger. "I always wanted to run the bases," Cone said. "The only way I could do it was to piggyback off Jesse." Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui each made their first appearance at Old-Timers Day, both drawing a big hand. Matsui came in from left field to pitch to Reggie Jackson in a made-for-Hollywood matchup of Godzilla vs. Mr. October. Berra and fellow Hall of Famer Whitey Ford, both in their 80s, waved from a golf cart and received standing ovations. Later on, still wearing his full uniform, Gossage threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Yankees played the Orioles.
