TORONTO - At the ripe old age of 26, Amir Johnson - the teams second-most experienced player - is one of only two Raptors starters that can give a firsthand account of what it will be like to compete in the postseason. "All he says is, its crazy," DeMar DeRozan told reporters following Torontos win over the Pistons Wednesday. The Raptors longest-serving members, Johnson and DeRozan have had two coaches and 56 different teammates in five seasons with the club, all without appearing in a single playoff game. Before becoming a fixture in Toronto, Johnson logged 56 minutes in 11 postseason contests spanning over two seasons with the Pistons. At the time, the forward was primarily a spectator, mentored by the likes of Rasheed Wallace, Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton and Antonio McDyess. Johnson is a man of few words but hes shared a couple with DeRozan, who is poised to make his playoff debut next month. "Amir says one word and you really just have to go off that one word, how he explains something," said the Raptors all-star guard. "Everything is crazy to him. So, he always says its crazy." "Its crazy, D," Johnson interjected from his locker on the far side of the room. "See, so its crazy," DeRozan continued. "Playoffs are going to be crazy." Up until this season, DeRozan and Johnson had endured 190 losses to just 119 wins in Raptors red. They havent played in a meaningful late-season game since their first year with the team, Chris Boshs last. Their bond is a unique one, as you might expect, having experienced the trials and tribulations of the Raptors four-year playoff drought together. "Thats my dog, man," DeRozan said of Johnson, both hail from the state of California. "Amirs known me [since] I was running around with the same pair of dirty shoes on playing basketball. We always used to look up to Amir, especially in LA. He was a big star and everything. Its definitely cool just to be here with him." "People dont know, Amirs my cousin," he said with a smirk, jokingly, we think. "You can ask Amir." So we did. "Oh man, I dont know," he responded, this was news to him. "I have no idea. Somewhere down the line, I guess. I guess were cousins, I dont know. Ive got to talk to his mom, talk to my mom and see." DeRozan, the Raptors leading scorer, is enjoying a career year but the playoffs - as coach Dwane Casey has cautioned - are a different animal. The atmosphere is intensified, the competition more fierce, scoring opportunities are harder to come by, weaknesses are magnified and in a seven-game series the oppositions scouting report will undoubtedly feature DeRozan. Theres been a steep playoff learning curve for Raptors stars of the past. Bosh, Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady each shot under 40 per cent from the field in their first postseason series. Making his playoff debut as a 23-year-old in 2000, Carter shot just 30 per cent, turning the ball over nearly three times per contest in a three-game sweep to the Knicks. Even with that in mind, DeRozan believes hes more prepared than most. While many players on losing teams find it far too maddening to watch their peers compete for a title in April and May, the Raptors guard has done just that each year hes missed out, making notes and using them for motivation. "I had to [watch]," he admitted, "just to understand, to see how it was. Youre playing the same team, possibly seven times. Just to understand that and see the different schemes out there and try to really get a knowledge of how its played." "Thats why I work so hard. It always bugged me going home early, just sitting there, doing nothing. It used to make me so hungry. Ive got a lot of friends that play in the playoffs and Ive always got to hear them all summer talk about their experience in the playoffs. Its always pushing me even further. I just want to get there, not even for myself, just for this organization as well. It definitely feels good that were moving in the right direction now." Cheap Nellie Fox Jersey . Not bad for a defenceman. The goal, that is. Although the shuffling dance steps werent bad, either. Barrie scored 55 seconds into overtime, Semyon Varlamov stopped 29 shots, and the Avalanche moved a step closer to their first playoff berth in four years with a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night. Chicago held Brooklyn to 29 points on 26.FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - A young Tom Brady and the New England Patriots grabbed three championships in his first four seasons as a starter. They have been outstanding ever since, and are still chasing their first NFL title since the 2004 season.I think when youre young, there is no perspective, the 37-year-old quarterback said Wednesday. Now that I have a little perspective on it, yeah, its hard to do. To do what we accomplished in a short period of time was amazing. The Patriots have been to two Super Bowls in the last nine seasons. Helped by two late receptions — one on David Tyrees trap against his helmet, the other on a long throw down the sideline to Mario Manningham — the New York Giants won close games. If those passes were incomplete, Brady might have a Super Bowl ring for each finger of one hand.Weve come up short a few times in some big ones, but were lucky to be in those games, too, he said after the Patriots held a rare scrimmage during practice to motivate them during their bye week.It was fun to have a real competitive day, Brady said. I could see why its so hard to score on our defence, though, I can tell you that. Theyve got a lot of good players. In the blue vs. white scrimmage, the white team won, cornerback Brandon Browner said — his team.We won by a field goal, he said. It was a great way to keep guys competing and get something out of practice because it is a bye week so youve got some guys, their minds are on maybe getting out of here or trying to get done with the week. The Patriots (12-4), the AFCs top seed, practice Thursday, and then have three days off before a weightlifting day Monday. They will start practicing on Tuesday for their divisional game. Many of them will watch this weekends playoff games that will determine their opponent on Jan. 10 in Gillette Stadium. It will be the Baltimore Raveens if they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday.dddddddddddd Otherwise, it will be the winner of Sundays game between the Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals.Whoever it is, the Patriots offence needs to improve over its last two performances, the least productive of the season.New England gained just 231 yards but edged the weak New York Jets 17-16 on Dec. 21. Then they picked up 260 in a 17-9 loss to Buffalo, although Brady played just the first half and tight end Rob Gronkowski and wide receiver Julian Edelman didnt play at all because the game had no bearing on their post-season seeding. And the Patriots have beaten three other AFC playoff teams — Cincinnati, Denver and Indianapolis — by at least 22 points. You just have to believe in what youre doing and believe in each other and go out there and play with a lot of confidence, Brady said. In spurts weve done some really good things, and other times our execution hasnt been as sharp. It really doesnt matter at this point what has happened — good, bad or indifferent. It just really matters what we really do from this point on. Every team has the same record.Brady won his first 10 playoff games. But in the last five seasons, he is 4-5 with losses in the Patriots first game in the first two years, and then the Super Bowl loss followed by losses in the AFC championship game the past two years. To be that final team is pretty tough, he said, but weve also put ourselves in a good position, so thats all you can ask for at this point for us.We look ahead to it with confidence knowing that we are capable of playing the best teams and playing really well against some of the best teams. All year weve done that, and now weve just got to do it in a single-elimination tournament.___Online: AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFLCheap Buffalo Sabres GearWholesale Calgary Flames JerseysCheap Adidas Colorado Avalanche JerseysMontreal Canadiens Outlet StoreWholesale New Jersey Devils JerseysAdidas Arizona Coyotes JerseysCheap Adidas Boston Bruins JerseysCheap Adidas Carolina Hurricanes JerseysChicago Blackhawks Shop Free ShippingWholesale Columbus Blue Jackets JerseysDallas Stars Shop Free ShippingCheap Adidas Detroit Red Wings JerseysAnaheim Ducks Jerseys ChinaWholesale Edmonton Oilers JerseysFlorida Panthers Shop Free ShippingWholesale Los Angeles Kings JerseysMinnesota Wild Outlet StoreCheap Adidas Nashville Predators JerseysCheap Adidas New York Islanders JerseysNew York Rangers Winter Classic JerseysCheap Adidas Ottawa Senators JerseysCheap Adidas Philadelphia Flyers JerseysWholesale Pittsburgh Penguins JerseysCheap Adidas San Jose Sharks JerseysSt. Louis Blues Winter Classic JerseysWholesale Tampa Bay Lightning JerseysToronto Maple Leafs Outlet StoreVancouver Canucks Outlet StoreCheap Adidas Vegas Golden Knights JerseysCheap Adidas Washington Capitals JerseysCheap Adidas Winnipeg Jets Jerseys ' ' '
